Guanacaste Province, Liberia, Costa Rica

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, located in Liberia, Costa Rica, serves as the gateway to the Guanacaste Province, known for its lush forests and over 400 miles of coastline. Although smaller compared to many international airports, Liberia’s airport welcomes over a million visitors each year. Starting in March of 2024, the airport will embark on a $36 million renovation project to upgrade its sole runway. The improvements aim to accommodate increasing traffic and larger aircraft over the next decade. The project will focus on repairing and waterproofing the nearly two-mile-long runway and enhancing drainage systems to handle heavy rainfall. Once completed, the upgraded runway will not only ensure safer and more reliable operations but also support the continued growth of Costa Rica’s second-busiest airport. With major airlines expanding their routes to meet the rising demand for travel to Guanacaste’s popular beach destinations, this renovation will be crucial for the region’s future tourism and air travel.

Portland Bolt was selected to provide the anchor bolts for this segment of the project. The renovations required large anchor rods with a 1¼” diameter, along with the accompanying hex nuts and washers. These components were specified as F1554 Grade 55 and were galvanized to ensure durability against environmental conditions.
