Courtright, Ontario, Canada
Project Overview
In the Summer of 2022, the proposal for the construction of the Hydrogen Ready Power Plant located in Courtright, Ontario, Canada came to fruition. The Hydrogen Ready Power Plant is a significant development in the transition toward cleaner energy sources. This facility is designed with the capability to transition from natural gas to hydrogen fuel in the future, aligning with the broader push towards reducing carbon emissions and leveraging renewable energy sources. The plant plays a crucial role in the region’s energy infrastructure by providing reliable electricity while preparing for a shift towards more sustainable energy sources. The plant is designed to accommodate hydrogen fuel, which can be used to reduce carbon emissions significantly compared to natural gas. This means that while it currently operates on natural gas, it has the necessary infrastructure to support a transition to hydrogen as it becomes more viable. The completion of the construction was estimated at approximately two years, but the project itself could operate for at least 25 years and could be entirely fueled by hydrogen by 2050.
Project Products
With a project this size, there were going to be anchor bolts needed. In October of 2023, Portland Bolt began the production of the anchor bolt requirement for the Hydrogen Ready Power Plant, which continued into April of 2024. The configuration of the anchor bolts required consisted primarily of fully threaded rods and rods with threads on each end. In total, approximately 10,000 lbs. of anchor bolts were shipped from Portland, Oregon to Courtright, Ontario, Canada ranging in diameter from 7/8” up to 2-1/2”. The grades of anchor bolts required included ASTM F1554 Grade 36, Grade 55, and Grade 105. Because of the harsh weather conditions in the area, all of the anchor bolts needed to be hot-dip galvanized. In addition to the typical nuts and washers, all of the anchor bolts required a large square A36 anchor plate on the embedded end. Portland Bolt specializes in large-diameter, custom anchor bolts as well as hot-dip galvanizes in-house, which made this project a perfect fit.
